DataCore Adds SANmaestro™ Storage Resource Management and Performance Analysis Suite to Its Growing Portfolio of Offerings

Storage Resource Analysis Package Correlates SAN Activity to Applications by Charting I/O Workloads, Capacity Consumption and Access Frequency

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (January 12, 2004) — DataCore Software, a leading provider of enterprise-class, open storage networking software, today announced an innovative storage management and resource analysis package for companies looking to optimize and consolidate their IT storage infrastructures.

The new SANmaestro™ option enables these firms to monitor, plan and analyze how their application servers consume valuable storage resources over time, defined in terms of disk capacity, physical ports, I/O bandwidth and throughput. Most importantly, it provides this unique insight without invasive host agents.

"Customers complain that traditional host-based monitoring techniques are difficult, if not impossible to maintain across numerous servers and different operating systems. In many cases they've given up trying to piece the big picture together," said Arun Taneja, of Massachusetts-based Taneja Group, an analyst and consulting firm specializing in storage and storage-centric server technologies. "DataCore SANmaestro's non-intrusive probes and charting capabilities enables IT administrators to gauge which applications are the most resource hungry, then factor these figures into their billing, charge-back, capacity planning, and budget justification. An export facility makes it simple to further process results in Excel, SAS, SAP, Oracle, SQL Server and other familiar packages already used for those purposes."

Companies can also review I/O service levels over variable time periods. Unexpected peaks and bottlenecks visually jump out from the built-in charts, where they can be associated with specific points in time and critical business events. That helps IT troubleshoot what may have otherwise been interpreted as unrelated incidents. With little training, one can quickly isolate unusual patterns over a relatively long period, and then drill down granularly to five-minute intervals.

Security-conscious customers, as well as service providers prefer SANmaestro's off-host monitoring capabilities because their requirement for vital statistics can be met without granting special privileges on the application servers. Instead, SANmaestro gathers SAN-wide instrumentation provided in real-time, then aggregates and charts workloads, capacity utilization and access frequency, among other parameters.

Extensible for Customization
For those organizations whose monitoring requirements exceed the scope of the built-in charts, DataCore offers a SANmaestro extensible spreadsheet and display builder for more sophisticated processing, analysis and presentation.

SANmaestro is available today. Pricing for the SANmaestro Monitoring Component starts at $15,000 per storage pool. Site-specific customization is also available.
